ArtCraft is a free, open-source desktop studio for AI image and video generation, and the current version is v0.41.0. You download it from getartcraft.com or the project's GitHub releases, install it like any desktop app, sign in with a free account, and start generating. There is no charge to download or install it, and no subscription is required to use it.
This page is an independent install guide. We are not affiliated with ArtCraft, Storyteller, or Adobe. Every fact below was checked against the official download page, the official pricing page and the project's GitHub repository on October 22, 2026 — anything the project has not published is marked not published rather than guessed.
Where to download ArtCraft (official sources only)
There are exactly two official places to get the app:
- getartcraft.com/download — stable installers for Windows and macOS, with the current version number on the page.
- github.com/storytold/artcraft/releases — the same stable builds, plus the full release history and source archives.
Both are run by the project itself: getartcraft.com is listed as the repository homepage, and the download buttons on that site point straight at the GitHub release assets. Avoid third-party "ArtCraft download" mirrors — the app is open source, so there is no reason to trust a repackaged installer.
Current release: v0.41.0
The latest stable release is artcraft-v0.41.0, published September 26, 2026. Its official assets are:
| File | Platform | Size (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
ArtCraft_0.41.0_universal.dmg | macOS, universal (Apple silicon + Intel) | 95 MB |
ArtCraft_0.41.0_x64-setup.exe | Windows 10/11, 64-bit installer | 42 MB |
ArtCraft_0.41.0_x64_en-US.msi | Windows, 64-bit MSI (managed installs) | 47 MB |
ArtCraft_universal.app.tar.gz | macOS, updater / archive format | 95 MB |
(GitHub release artcraft-v0.41.0)
There is no Linux installer. None of the 28 published releases ships a Linux asset — no .AppImage, .deb, .rpm, Flatpak or tarball — and the download page lists only Windows, macOS and the browser version. Linux is supported only by building from source; see the Linux section below.
How to install ArtCraft on Windows
- Download
ArtCraft_0.41.0_x64-setup.exefrom getartcraft.com/download or the release page. Use the.msiinstead if you deploy software across managed machines. - Run the installer and follow the prompts. The defaults are fine for a normal single-user install.
- Launch ArtCraft from the Start menu.
- Create a free account or log in on first launch — the official quick start lists "install & sign in" as step two, before you can generate.
- Create your first project.
If Windows shows a SmartScreen "unrecognised app" prompt, confirm the file came from the two sources above before allowing it. That warning shows up for plenty of independently distributed apps and says nothing about this specific build.
How to install ArtCraft on macOS
- Download
ArtCraft_0.41.0_universal.dmg. The universal build runs natively on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs, so there is no separate ARM download. - Open the
.dmgand drag ArtCraft into your Applications folder. - Launch it from Applications (or Spotlight) rather than from the mounted disk image — running from a read-only volume can confuse updates.
- Sign in with a free account, then start a project.
If macOS blocks the first launch with a Gatekeeper message, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow the app there instead of disabling Gatekeeper globally.
How to install ArtCraft on Linux
ArtCraft is a Rust/Tauri application and the project's developer docs cover a Linux setup — but there is no packaged Linux build, so there is nothing to install. The honest options are:
- Use the browser version at app.getartcraft.com — same studio, no install. This is the practical answer for most Linux users.
- Build from source, following the official dev setup guide: install Rust, Node.js (the docs note
v24.13.0works at time of writing, with Node 20+ required by the launcher) and the Tauri CLI (tauri-cli 2.10.0works at time of writing), then run the combined Unix launcher from the repository root:
./script/artcraft/unix_dev.sh
The launcher starts the Vite frontend bound to 127.0.0.1 (from port 5193 upward, picking the next free port) and then launches Tauri against it, so a single command brings up the whole app. (dev setup docs)
That path gives you a development build, not a signed release binary. Whether a packaged Linux release is planned is not published.
System requirements
The official download page lists these minimums:
| Platform | OS requirement | RAM | Free storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 (64-bit) or newer | 8 GB recommended | 2 GB |
| macOS | macOS 12.0 or newer | 8 GB recommended | 2 GB |
| Linux | Build from source, or use the web app | not published | not published |
| Web | Modern desktop browser | not published | n/a |
Is ArtCraft free? What about the license?
Yes — the download, the installation and the software itself are free, and it is open source under a dual MIT / Apache-2.0 license, at your option. The repository states it plainly: "ArtCraft is dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, at your option," with third-party notices kept in a separate NOTICE file. (repository README, License section)
Two things are worth separating, because most "is ArtCraft free" answers blur them:
- The studio is free and yours. The site's own framing is "no subscription required" and "yours forever" — you can read, fork and self-host the code.
- Model usage is metered. Generations run through hosted models (Nano Banana, GPT Image, Seedance, Kling and others), so you either spend ArtCraft credits through an optional paid plan, or bring your own compute and third-party subscriptions. The pricing footnote says exactly that: ArtCraft can be used without paying for a subscription, and you can bring your own compute and third-party subscriptions. (pricing page)
Optional plans, if you would rather not wire up your own keys. These are USD list prices as displayed on October 22, 2026, when a 20% "limited-time" discount was running — treat the discounted column as temporary:
| Plan | Monthly list | With running discount | Yearly (billed) | Credits / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $10 | $8 | $96 | 1,000 |
| Pro | $35 | $28 | $336 | 3,750 |
| Max | $60 | $48 | $576 | 6,600 |
| Enterprise | Custom | — | — | Bespoke allocation |
Credits are refunded when a generation fails, and one-time credit packs never expire. (pricing page)
What ArtCraft actually does
ArtCraft calls itself "the IDE for artists": the pitch is that prompting alone gives you too little control, so you compose the shot first and then let a model render it. The documented feature set:
- 2D canvas compositing — image layers, background removal, drawing tools, masks and inpainting.
- 3D scene compositing — backdrops, foregrounds and props layered with real depth.
- Image to Location — place virtual actors into a consistent environment and shoot several angles in the same room without things disappearing between takes.
- Character posing and identity transfer — pose a mannequin to drive your character's placement and pose before generating.
- Scene blocking with kitbashing — combine 3D asset kits to control camera angles, object placement and depth.
- Image to 3D mesh — turn a reference image into a 3D object you can position, rotate and frame.
- Text to image, prompted image editing, image to video — the usual one-shot generation paths, available alongside the canvas tools.
(repository README, feature tables)
Models: the README documents a 62-model catalog inside the app, spanning images (Nano Banana, GPT Image, FLUX, Seedream), video (Seedance, Kling, Veo, Sora, Vidu, MiniMax, Flux video), music and sound (Suno, Seed Audio), 3D meshes (Hunyuan 3D, Tripo3D, Meshy, Rodin) and worlds/Gaussian splats (Marble, TripoSplat). The app can also route to Grok, Midjourney, Sora and World Labs as separate providers, with Kling, Google, Runway and Luma listed as planned integrations. (README, models section)
Project health, as a rough signal of whether it is maintained: about 35,400 GitHub stars and 5,600 forks on October 22, 2026, with commits landing that same day. Worth noting if you care about performance on older hardware: the desktop app is written in Rust with Tauri, not Electron.
ArtCraft vs Adobe Firefly and Photoshop
The short version: ArtCraft is an open-source, local-first studio you install once and own; Firefly and Photoshop are proprietary Adobe products sold on subscription, with Adobe's generative features tied to Adobe's credits and cloud services.
| ArtCraft | Adobe Firefly | Adobe Photoshop | |
|---|---|---|---|
| License | Open source, dual MIT / Apache-2.0 | Proprietary | Proprietary |
| Cost model | Free app; optional plans, or bring your own compute and keys | Subscription plans plus generative credits | Subscription only (Creative Cloud) |
| Runs where | Desktop app (Windows, macOS) plus a browser studio | Browser-based, Adobe-hosted | Desktop app with web and mobile companions |
| Model choice | Dozens of third-party models in one app (Nano Banana, GPT Image, Seedance, Kling, Veo…) | Adobe's own Firefly models | Adobe's Firefly-powered generative features |
| Strongest at | Composing a shot in 2D/3D before generating it; owning the tool | Fast text-to-image and video inside Adobe's ecosystem | Pixel-level retouching, compositing and print-grade colour workflows |
| Offline / self-host | Yes — install locally, fork the code | No | Licensed desktop app, but generative features need Adobe services |
Which to pick: if you need a Photoshop replacement for retouching and CMYK print work, neither ArtCraft nor Firefly replaces it — Adobe's editor is still the reference there. If you want to direct AI generation with camera placement, layered scenes and consistent locations, and you dislike renting software, ArtCraft is the one with an open license. Firefly makes more sense when your team already lives inside Creative Cloud and needs Adobe's licensing and asset integrations. Adobe publishes its own plan pricing and changes it often, so it is not quoted here. (Adobe Firefly plans)
PhotoCraft download (same family, different app)
If you searched for PhotoCraft download, you want the sibling app, not ArtCraft. PhotoCraft is the photo editor from the same team, also written from scratch in Rust, with layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, type, vectors and brushes, PSD/PSB round-tripping and 8/16/32-bit documents. .dmg; Windows.msiand portable builds for x64, x86 and ARM64; and — unlike ArtCraft — real Linux builds (.AppImage,.deb,.rpm, Flatpak,.pkg.tar.zst, tarball) plus a headless CLI - Easiest route: the ArtCraft Launcher (v0.5.1) installs PhotoCraft and the other Crafting Apps, picks the right build for your machine and keeps them updated (craft-launcher)
The same family also ships VectorCraft, FilmCraft, LightCraft, PdfCraft, EffectCraft, DesignCraft, FigCraft, WordCraft, SoundCraft, DeckCraft, CADCraft and GridCraft — all open source, all installable from the same launcher.
FAQ
Do I have to pay to use ArtCraft? No. The app is free and open source. You only pay if you buy optional credits or a subscription for hosted models, and the project documents the alternative: bring your own compute and third-party subscriptions.
Do I need an account? The official quick start lists "install & sign in — create a free account or log in" as a step before creating anything, so plan on signing in. Whether a fully offline, account-free mode exists is not published.
Is there an ArtCraft Linux version? No Linux installer exists — none of the 28 published releases contains a Linux asset. Use the browser studio at app.getartcraft.com, or build from source with the official dev setup guide. PhotoCraft, the sibling app, does ship Linux builds.
Is ArtCraft free for commercial work? The MIT/Apache-2.0 dual license permits commercial use of the software, but the outputs are also governed by whichever model provider you generate with. Check the terms of the models you enable; the project does not publish one blanket answer covering model outputs.
What is "artcraft ai" versus ArtCraft?
The same product — the phrase people search for is just the AI studio from Storyteller (repository storytold/artcraft, site getartcraft.com). Several unrelated projects share the "ArtCraft" name, so confirm you landed on getartcraft.com before installing anything.
Can I run it in a browser instead of installing? Yes. app.getartcraft.com runs the studio without an install; the desktop app adds local file access and local editing on your own machine.
How big is the download?
About 95 MB for the macOS disk image, 42 MB for the Windows .exe and 47 MB for the .msi in v0.41.0. Budget roughly 2 GB of free disk space for the installed app and working files, per the official requirements.
Does an older version still work? Old releases stay on the GitHub releases page, but there is no published compatibility guarantee, and model integrations change often. Install v0.41.0 or newer.
